Changing Your Cabin Air Filter
Chances are if you’re here, you already know what the cabin air filter in your vehicle is! The cabin air filter prevents dust, pollen, and other air pollutants coming through the air in the cabin. While any time is a good time to change your cabin air filter, the service technicians here at Troutman’s feel springtime is a great reminder time since pollens and similar allergens will be out in full force soon!
Cabin air filters are typically found behind the glove compartment or under the dash, but can also be found under the hood on some vehicles. Changing a cabin air filter is simple general maintenance task that most are able to accomplish if they would like, but we’re always happy to change it for you! If you would like to see your old one, just ask us when you’re dropping your vehicle off!
While you’ll want to check your vehicle’s manual, we would suggest changing your cabin air filter AT LEAST every 30,000 miles. If you’re an allergy-sufferer like me, you may want to consider changing the cabin air filter every 10,000-15,000 miles. The filters and time for labor for changing are low-cost, just give us a call if you would like more information! OR if you’re a DIYer, check your manual or find a reputable video on Youtube and take changing your cabin air filter into your own hands! Keeping the cabin air filter fresh and clean will allow your vehicle to filter out allergens in the air coming through the HVAC system, keeping your car cleaner and the air fresher!
Signs It’s Time to Change Your Cabin Air Filter:
- You’ve Never Had it Changed
- You Haven’t Had It Changed In The Last Year
- The Heating/AC vents seem to be blowing less (reduced air flow)
- Musty odor inside your vehicle
- A whistling sound when the heating/ac is one (this could be other things, too)
We wish you all a happy Spring and hope this post will help you understand the purpose of your car’s cabin air filter!
