We may be in the middle of summer, but it won’t be long before the leaves start falling. And then, very quickly, Millersburg be in the throes of winter. And we all know what that means: snow, sleet, and freezing temperatures.
When the mercury dips, our cars feel the brunt, especially the batteries. Keep these jumpstarting tips courtesy of our GMC service center in your back pocket:
A Guide to Jumpstarting Your Car
Giving your battery a jumpstart may be easier than you realize, and it can be done in six steps:
- Find your jumper cables and a working car. Drive it up to the non-working one far enough so the cables can reach both batteries. Turn the car off and pop both hoods.
- Take the red clip of one cable and attach it to the positive terminal on the dead battery. There should be a plus-sign or POS. Then connect the other end to the positive terminal on the working battery.
- Next, connect the black clip to the negative terminal on the working battery. There will be a minus-sign or NEG. Then, attach the other end not to the other battery, but to an unpainted metal surface away from the battery.
- Start the car with the working battery and let it run for a few minutes.
- Now, turn the other car on. If it comes on, leave it on and disconnect the cables.
- Drive the vehicle around for about minutes to fully recharge the battery.
If you’re still not having luck, then it could be that the battery just can’t hold a charge anymore. At most, a battery only usually lasts for about five years. If yours is getting up there in age, it’s a smart idea to get it checked, and you can do that at the service center at Troutman’s Chevy Buick GMC.
